Team Singapore’s foray in the team event at the SEA Youth Championships 2025 in Jakarta, Indonesia, ended with the young stars clinching gold, silver and bronze for the U19 Boys Team, U15 Girls Team and U19 Girls Team respectively.

The U19 Boys Team of Nicholas Tan, Ellsworth Le and Loy Xing Yao and anchored by Olympian Izaac Quek, beat neighbours Malaysia in the final, 3-1, with Quek securing the victory in the final game, after Loy had given Singapore the 2-1 lead with an epic victory in the third game.

In the U15 Girls Team final, which was a repeat of the 2024 final, a see-saw battle between Singapore and Thailand eventually went to the way of the Thais, as they outlasted a team comprising of Loy Ming Ying, Janelle Chiang, Chong Zi Sian and Kayleigh Mae Ng, 3-2 to gain a measure of sweet revenge.

The U19 Girls team made up of Chloe Lai, Eudora Lee, Naomi Lum and Rhiannon Tey, shared the bronze medal with Vietnam after they were defeated 3-0 in the semifinals by Malaysia.

Credit must also go to the U15 Boys team of Benaiah Seah, Tristen Yee, Benjamin Lau and Rafael Lim, who fought hard in a tough group consisting also of two strong teams, Thailand and Vietnam. Unfortunately, defeats to both the aforementioned teams meant that the U15 boys finished third in their group and did not qualify for the semifinals.

Nevertheless, great job to all players and for putting in the hard work to clinch the medals. The players will next compete for more medals in the Doubles and Singles events.

The championships conclude on Tuesday, 22 April.
