
14 year-old Loy Ming Ying clinched her first ever medal at the Asian Youth Championships when she finished joint-3rd in the U15 Girls’ Singles.
She also denied China a clean sweep of the medals in the category, as she had beaten Yao Ruixuan 3-2 in an epic affair in the quarterfinal, coming from two games down to prevail 17-19, 5-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-7.
However, the Sports School student was unable to repeat her giant-killing feat in the semi final, as she fell to eventual champion, Hu Yi in straight sets, losing 7-11, 7-11, 11-13, 7-11. Hu would go on to defeat compatriot Yang Huize, 4-1 in the final.

Nevertheless, this bronze medal cements her position as one of Asia’s rising stars, with more success to come in the future.
“Getting a medal at the Asian Youth Championships was beyond my expectations. I intend to continue improving on my skills for future competitions. I thank SSP, my coach, my team and my family for supporting me on this journey”, said the youngster.
