Yu Mengyu will be withdrawing from the SEA Games 2019 Philippines because of her back injury.
“Since the beginning of the year, I have been looking forward to play at the SEA Games. It is really sad for me, having to pull out of the SEA Games because of my injury. But I have to focus on my recovery and to bounce back for the New Year,’’ said Yu Mengyu.
Lin Ye would be her replacement in the singles and doubles events. Lin Ye has won the team gold at three consecutive SEA Games, 2013, 2015 and 2017 editions. She also scored the women’s doubles gold in 2015 SEA Games and a silver in the 2017 SEA Games.
Lin Ye said, ‘’I am happy to be to be given this opportunity to represent Singapore at the upcoming SEA Games. I have been training hard and I hope to have a successful outing at the SEA Games.”
“It is in the best interest of Yu Mengyu to withdraw her from the SEA Games. Right now, she needs to focus on her recovery and together with the Singapore Sports Institute, we are giving her the best support to regain her fitness,’’ said Ms Ellen Lee, JP, PBM, STTA President.
Ms Ellen Lee added, “Lin Ye is currently the next highest ranked athlete in Singapore. We believe that Lin Ye will be a strong addition to the team and together with her team mates will do their utmost best at the upcoming SEA Games’’.
