Singapore’s rising table tennis star, Loy Ming Ying, having already won the Girls’ U17 Singles title, achieved a remarkable feat by securing her second title in three days at the WTT Youth Contender Cappadocia.

The 14-year-old, soon to be 15, sensation triumphed in the Girls’ U19 Singles event, beating Sara Tokic of Slovenia 3-0 in straight sets, 11-4, 11-9, 11-7 in the final.

The victory meant that she claimed her first ever U19 title and etched her name into the record books as Singapore’s youngest ever U19 champion in the WTT Youth Series, further cementing her reputation as one of Asia’s brightest young talents. She has also now won 11 straight matches, dropping only 3 games during that run.

“To win one title is great but to win two titles is really a fantastic achievement. I just went out and focused on making sure I played my best and to give it my all. I want to build on this momentum and strive for greater success in future competitions”, said the youngster.

Turkiye has proven a happy hunting ground for Loy, as she won the Girls’ U15 Singles title at the WTT Youth Contender Antalya 2024, while also earning a joint third-place finish in the Girls’ U17 Singles at the same event.

In the U19 singles event, she cruised through the group stage with successive 3-0 wins over Aybuke Simsek of Turkiye (11-6, 11-6, 11-8) and Dakato Ferrer of Venezuela (11-4, 11-5, 11-5).

After a bye to the quarterfinals, she had to dig deep to defeat Marziyya Nurmatova of Azerbaijan 3-2 in a see-saw battle, 11-13, 11-7, 8-11, 12-10, 11-5, before going on to get the better of Setayesh Iloukhani of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the second time in the competition, winning 12-10, 11-8, 11-5.

Fellow Singaporean Chloe Lai saw her bid for the podium end in the quarterfinals, as she lost 3-0 to Simsek, 8-11, 8-11, 7-11.

Both youngsters, along with Ser Lin Qian, will compete at the WTT Feeder Cappadocia, which begins on Monday, 17 February.
