Fresh off her Singapore Smash exploits, Singapore’s rising table tennis star, Loy Ming Ying, 15, put on an outstanding display at the WTT Youth Contender Cappadocia 2025, as she dominated the competition on her way to winning her first title of the year.
Loy showcased her unwavering focus and precision throughout the tournament, only dropping one game in her six matches, as she was crowned Girls’ U17 singles champion.
She emerged victorious after beating the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Vania Yavari 3-0 in the final in straight sets, 11-8, 11-6, 11-6.
Earlier in the competition, she had cruised through the Group Stage with successive 3-0 victories over Maria Cuciuc of Romania (11-5, 11-3, 11-5) and Duru Kirbac of Turkiye (11-4, 11-6, 11-7), before seeing off India’s Diya Bramhachary, also in a 3-0 victory (11-4, 11-7, 11-3) in the Round of 16.
She made it four successive 3-0 wins with victory over Nil Basaran of Turkiye (11-6, 11-8, 11-1) in the Quarterfinal, before finally dropping her first game of the competition in the semifinal in a 3-1 win over Setayesh Iloukhani of the Islamic Republic of Iran, 10-12, 11-9, 12-10, 11-4.
“I am truly elated to win this title. It was a challenging tournament, but I gave my best in every match”, said the young gun.
She will turn her attention to the Girls’ U19 Singles competition which will begin today.
With this victory, Loy continues to solidify her place among the sport’s emerging talents. She now sets her sights on upcoming international tournaments, including the Southeast Asian Youth Championships in April in Indonesia, and the Asian Youth Championships in Uzbekistan, with an eye as well to December’s Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
