
Singapore’s Matthew Ellis, 17, clinched his first podium finish in the World Table Tennis (WTT) Youth series, as he secured a joint-3rd place in the Boys U19 Singles at the WTT Youth Contender Wladyslowowo 2025.
The Singaporean youngster, who was given a bye in the Round of 64, showed grit and determination to battle his way past three home town favourites in the Round of 32, Round of 16 and Quarterfinals (Samuel Michna, Kacper Perkowski and Mateusz Sakowicz respectively) to reach the semifinals, where he eventually lost 3-1 to Kim Gaon of South Korea, 11-2, 6-11, 7-11, 7-11.
Also getting on the podium was Loy Ming Ying, 15, who clinched her second successive bronze in the competition, placing joint-3rd in the Girls U19 Singles to add to her bronze in the Girls U17 Singles which she had won two days earlier.
