Singapore’s Mixed Doubles pairing of Koen Pang and Wong Xin Ru fought their way to a second place finish at the WTT Feeder Varazdin 2024 on Saturday, 6 April.
Qualifying for their first ever WTT Mixed Doubles final, the pair faced off against Kristian Karlsson and Christina Kallberg of Sweden. Despite losing the first set, the pair showed tenacity to claw their way back from 2-6 down in the second set to tie the match at 1-1. They then had the opportunity to win the match in the 4th set where they came back from 1-7 down to earn a match point at 10-9. However, they could not manage to seal the win, and the Swede’s came back strong in the final set to clinch the match 3-2.
Nevertheless, it was a fantastic performance by the pair throughout the competition, where they came from two sets down to beat the higher ranked Luxembourg pair of Ni Xia Lian and Luka Mladenovic 3-2 in the Round of 16, and then held their nerve to seal victory over Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi Kem and Wong Chun Ting in the semifinal.
This achievement will see them gain additional ranking points in their bid to achieve Olympic Games qualification.
