Singapore’s Tan Zhao Yun, 19 and Nicholas Tan, 17, secured a joint-bronze in the Mixed Doubles event at the Southeast Asian Championships in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
The duo let slip a 2-0 lead to eventually lose 3-2 to the more experienced Malaysian pair of Wong Qi Shen and Tee Ai Xin, 11-8, 11-9, 7-11, 6-11, 4-11, in the semifinal on Friday.
The pair were looking to claim a third Malaysian scalp in a row, after having already defeated the pairs of Tey Hong Yu and Cheah Yu Zheng in the Round of 16 and Danny Ng and Alice Chang in the quarterfinal by similar 3-1 score lines earlier in the competition.
Zhao Yun adds the bronze to the gold medal won in the team event, while Nicholas gets his second bronze of the Championships, after also being part of the team that clinched bronze in the Men’s team event.
