The medal rush for Singapore continued at the WTT Youth Contender San Francisco II 2024 as the Republic’s junior paddlers secured a gold, silver and bronze on the final day of competition.

In the U15 Girls Singles, teammates and roommates Loy Ming Ying and Janelle Chiang both sealed their places in the final after they defeated Li Jen-Yueh of Chinese Taipei and Tanisha Piyadasa of USA in their respective semifinals.

Ming Ying cruised to a convincing 12-10, 11-3, 11-2 win over Li, while Janelle came from behind to defeat home favourite Piyadasa, 9-11, 13-11, 11-3, 11-9.

However, Janelle’s victory came at a cost as she pulled her back muscle and was unable to play the final, thus conceding the walkover, and giving Ming Ying her second WTT Youth Contender U15 Singles title, with the 14-year-old having also won in Antalya in January.

In the U19 Girls Singles, Chloe Lai added another trophy to her U19 Mixed Doubles title in San Francisco when she secured a joint-3rd place podium finish.

She had earlier beaten Australian Sanaya Buddhadasa 3-0 (11-8, 11-5, 15-13) in the quarterfinals, but found Filipino Kheith Cruz a hurdle too much to overcome, as she fell in straight sets in the semifinal, 1-11, 2-11, 12-14.

The team will stay in San Francisco to play in the Silicon Valley Open 2024 taking place from July 26 to 28.
