
Fresh off their successful exploits at the WTT Youth Contender San Francisco, Singapore’s junior paddlers continued to shine at the Silicon Valley Open, where they took on the best that USA had to offer.
The first day of competition saw Singapore’s rising stars bag a gold and a silver along with two bronzes – Sonia Zainudeen clinching the title in the U13 Girls Singles, while Nicholas Tan finished runner up in the U19 Boys Singles event. The bronzes went to Ellsworth Le and Loy Ming Ying, in the U19 Boys and Girls Singles respectively.

Day 2 of competition saw Singapore sweep the U17 Boys Singles event, as the Republic’s junior paddlers finished 1-2-3, with Yang Ze Yi taking gold, Nicholas winning his second silver medal of the competition, and likewise, Ellsworth clinching back to back bronze medals.

Not to be outdone, Ming Ying also clinched the U17 Girls Singles title, while teammate Chloe Lai finished joint-3rd.

The final day of competition saw Sonia Zainudeen add to her U13 Girls Singles title when she won both the U1900 and U2050 events. She played a total of 13 matches, going undefeated! What a feat!

There was also medals in the U19 Mixed Doubles, as Ellsworth Le and Chloe Lai, champions of the WTT Youth Contender San Francisco, finished runners up, while Nicholas Tan and Loy Ming Ying bagged a joint-3rd.
