A new pairing but the same result, as Singapore’s U19 Mixed Doubles pair of Ellsworth Le and Chloe Lai clinched gold in a hard fought victory over Richard Yap and Lim Jing Shuen of Malaysia in the final at the SEA Youth Table Tennis Championships 2025 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The see-saw battle in the Causeway Derby eventually went the way of the Singaporeans, as they prevailed 16-14, 7-11, 11-6, 5-11, 11-6 for the 3-2 win.

Their victory meant that the Mixed Doubles title remained in Singapore’s hands, after the sibling pair of Loy Xing Yao and Loy Ming Ying won it in the 2024 edition in Malaysia.

Le also won a joint-bronze in the U19 Boys Doubles with partner Loy after losing in the semifinals to Indonesia, while the U15 Boys Doubles pair of Rafael Lim and Tristen Yee also clinched joint-bronze.

There was heartbreak for Ming Ying and Janelle Chiang in the U15 Girls Doubles as they failed to defend the title that they won in 2024, losing 3-0 (2-11, 8-11, 4-11) to perennial rivals Kulapassr Vijitvirayagul and Chisa Cachamit of Thailand in the final.

Singapore also had to settle for silver in the U19 Girls Doubles, as Lai and Eudora Lee fell to a straight sets 3-0 defeat to their Malaysian opponents, Gan Ai Lis and Lim.

With one more day to go, Singapore’s medal tally reads 2 golds, 3 silvers and 3 bronzes.
