Singapore’s male paddlers got off to a winning start at the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships when they upset 8th ranked Brazil, 3-0.
Izaac Quek gave Singapore the lead when he beat Guilherme Teodoro, 11-9, 10-12, 9-11, 11-4, 11-7.
Koen Pang added breathing space for Singapore when he outplayed Vitor Ishiy, 11-8, 8-11, 11-5, 11-4.
Although veteran Clarence Chew was given a scare, he kept his mettle to defeat Carlos Ishida, 11-5, 11-4, 9-11, 11-13, 11-6, to seal victory for Singapore.
