National paddler Tan Zhao Yun ( 陈昭澐 ), 18 , added another trophy to her collection when she bagged joint-third place at the WTT Youth Contender Havirov 2024.
She reached the semifinals of the U19 Girls Singles event, where she faced China’s Yao Ruixuan. Tan took the first set 11-8, but dropped the next to Yao, 4-11. She regained her composure to reclaim the lead with a 11-7 win in the third set. However, Yao proved too strong in the last two sets, as Tan lost 7-11, 7-11.
Tan had earlier beaten another Chinese, Zhao Wangqi, when she stormed from 1-0 down to win 3-1, 10-12, 11-6, 11-5, 14-12.
This is Tan’s second trophy on the WTT Youth Contender circuit this year, having won the U19 Girls Singles title in Tunis earlier in February. She also helped Singapore to victory in the U19 Women’s Team event at the recent SEA Youth Table Tennis Championships in Malaysia.
